Green and gold are the national colours of Australia so we thought it appropriate to make cupcakes for a picnic on Australia Day decorated in green and gold.
Australia Day is a public holiday for all Australian’s and most of us will use the holiday to have a BBQ and a few drinks with friends to celebrate the occasion whilst listening to Tripe J’s Hottest 100. It is an institution in Australia.
In the cloud of BBQ smoke and alcohol it is easy to forget what Australia Day really means. It commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788, the hoisting of the British flag there, and the proclamation of British sovereignty. Without this history we would not be here.
