A day at the beach {Long Island}

Last weekend we took the train out to Long Beach, Long Island. Our expectations were fairly low since in my years of travel I have come to the conclusion that Australia has some of the best beaches in the world (not that I wish to offend anyone). Unfortunately Long Beach didn’t even live up to the lowered expectations – since when should you have to pay to go to the beach??

{We had a lunch time burger at this joint. It wasn’t the best burger I’ve ever had}

{The boardwalk is really, really long. We really should have hired some bikes to check out the rest of the beach}

{We went for a walk around the back streets and came across this eclectic front yard. I couldn’t resist taking a photo}

{We came across this very cool looking car}

{And then we practised with the new camera taking pics of each other}

{We also tried a few more ‘creative’ shots – perhaps their will be some more outfit shots in the future?}

Neon {An 80’s flashback}

{Jessica Stein from}

I have been seeing a lot of neon of the yellow variety being worn around the blog sphere. Personally I’m not a huge fan but I’m not sure if it’s because I was a teenager in the 80’s and have horrible flash backs of wearing neon years ago (and I’m clearly showing my age by saying this). What do you think? Is it in your wardrobe this season or on your nails?

On the other hand I have been after a pair of summer wedges and I think these from above might just do the trick.

They are on special at Bloomingdales at the moment…even more reason to add them to my shoe collection!

{Inspiration} Wear-to-work

Since heading back to work I have been on the look out for wear-to-work clothes. I have never been a huge fan of the suit so I need to find outfits that are suitably corporate but show enough personality to make dressing in the morning fun. In Sydney I would wear a dress almost every other day but recently I’ve been drawn to separates, especially trousers.

The month of March {and the beginning of April}

Sorry for my less than frequent posts of late. March was a bit of a blurr. I have a new job – it’s in an office and I sit in a cubicle all day but I’m just so happy to have a job so I can’t complain.

A few weeks ago:

{We finished looking after this incredibly gorgeous dog. I just want to eat him up}

{The Magnolia trees were in full bloom and we were wearing spring gear}

Last week:

{I found this lovely yoghurt in a pretty glass jar - so cute. I didn't have time to snap the photo before I ate the contents of the jar}

Today: my eyes got fuzzy from staring at a computer screen too long and I set my alarm for a 5am wake up call because…

This weekend: we are heading to New Orleans with some new-found friends for a long weekend. I’m so excited. I haven’t been on a plane since we arrived here 7 months ago, and it’s going to be warm…I mean really warm! I am having trouble deciding what to pack since my summer clothes have been in hibernation for the past 12 months*.

Next week: I’m going to start exercising. Something I haven’t done much of lately. I blame the new job, but really I can’t do that, I think I’m just lazy…and tired, I can’t seem to make it to bed at a reasonable hour in this city! Any tips are more than welcome.

Happy Easter everyone.

*Heading from Australian winter to American winter wasn’t very well planned.

{Stripes} Any type any colour

{Super cute jumpsuit from}

I have had an infatuation with stripes for some time now (see here and here) and can happily say that the trend* is here to stay for at least spring 2012 anyway. The high street shops are filled with stripes – any colour, any width and any item of clothing imaginable. Here are some inspirational pictures including a peak at my own collection. One word – obsessed.

{My own collection of stripes}

*I would normally say that the stripe is a classic and staple in anyones wardrobe (and yes I love a well executed stripe on a man) but this season the high street stores have taken it to another level.

On another note it’s finally Friday, yay!! This week was a good week, I finally got my work rights so I can start job hunting – btw does anyone like looking for a new job because I find the whole process rather difficult? Anyway, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
