New beginnings

Clearly it’s been a while since I blogged anything…almost 6 months to be kind of exact. In terms of a life span, 6 months isn’t a very long time at all but a lot has happened in our life since then. The #1 news was the birth of our beautiful baby boy, George Ellis – he is a keeper.

{Please excuse the spit up, we do that a lot at this age it seems}

I had a glorious 5 months maternity leave over the summer (tick to the best tan i’ve ever had).  My husband thinks that i am exaggerating when i say that it has been one of the best summer’s of my life…but truly it has! I really wanted to enjoy my maternity leave with George and this blog fell by the way side as i cherished every moment with our baby boy. And to be honest, being a new parent is tough, I had enough trouble trying to put dinner on the table every night let alone write on a blog (i really don’t know how some of the mommy blogs do it!). But now i’m back at work and i feel that i have life more or less under control i kind of wanted to start blogging again. I was getting a bit bored with the old format so we have new name (same URL as i couldn’t change that), a bit of a new layout and some new content. Hope you like it.

39 and 1/2 weeks {and other random things}

Gee how time flies. I cannot believe it but I am 39 and 1/2 weeks pregnant as I write this and we are pretty much ready to meet our little man as soon as he decides to enter the world! Since this is our first child both husband and I are filled with excitement but also we’re damm nervous, I mean, what do we do with our little boy when he comes home? I’m sure the maternal instinct kicks in (everyone says it does) but that doesn’t make us feel any better. I think it’s also the fact that we realize our lives are about to change forever and don’t really know how we will adjust to it (and honestly both husband and I don’t handle change very well). It’s all a BIG exciting unknown.

37 weeks

{Actually this is me at 37 weeks}

We are a bit proud over here. Check out this picture that husband took of some work being done to the baseball fields below our building –  it made it into the local newspaper. We are proud as punch.

My parents arrived last weekend just in time for spring (although it’s still kind of cold) and we took a trip out to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens to check out the cherry blossoms. We were a little early to witness their full magnificence but there were a few trees in full bloom! In comparison it was nothing like D.C last year but cherry blossoms never get old. They are just delicately pretty.

We’ve never really spent much time down there, probably because it’s the financial district and on the weekends it’s like a ghost town. But the absence of people gives you time to look around and fully appreciate the mix of old and new.

Mexico {Mayan ruins and a babymoon}

{The beach at Playa del Carmen}

Ever since my university days I have wanted to visit the Mayan ruins in Mexico so I put it to husband one night in December when it was cold and miserable outside, that ‘wouldn’t it be nice to have one last holiday lying on the beach doing nothing before the baby is born?’ and suggested Mexico as an ideal location. Lucky for me he thought the idea was pretty good so we booked a trip to an all-inclusive resort near Playa del Carmen on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico.

{Husband was happy that the beach actually had waves so he could body surf – he desperately wanted a surf board to ride these lovely little waves but none could be found}IMG_2116

{The grounds of the resort were beautiful and lush}IMG_2118 IMG_2132

After lounging around the resort for a couple of days we got bored so we took the resort bus and spent half a day in Playa del Carmen.

{Husband brought a pair of crocodile skin boots which I’m totally embarrassed about so won’t post a picture}

We also took a day trip to Chichen Itza. I won’t lie, it was a long day but totally worth it.

{Here I am, the fat pregnant woman, looking particularly happy in this shot}

The day trip also involved a stop at a Cenote (underground water hole) for a swim.

And a stop in a town called Valladolid (the Spanish built it out of stones from Mayan temples).

So now we are on the count down…6 more weeks until we meet our new little boy.

Vegas Baby

IMG_1837I’m not really sure what we were thinking booking a trip to Sin City when I was 25 weeks pregnant but apart from the flight (which turned out to be pretty long and uncomfortable for me) it turned out to be a great (but cold) long weekend!

{We ended the weekend with a night in Boulder City} IMG_1816{And a tour of Hoover Dam. I highly recommend it as well. If you don’t do the tour it’s just a wall rather than an amazing engineering construction particularly given that it was built in the 1930’s}

The Oscars {2013}

I really do love awards season and living in the US is the perfect excuse to stay up late to watch the live telecast (rather than checking the internet every 5 minutes to check out the new arrivals on the red carpet which usually happens back in Australia).

 We didn’t host a shindig like we did last year (I’m starting to struggle a bit now at 32 weeks) but I did stay up to watch it..well almost all of it.

Let me just whinge for a moment: Jennifer Lawrence – wtf, was Silver Linings Playbook that good? And poor Hugh, Daniel Day-Lewis was always going to win Best Actor.

 For 2013 my best dressed awards go to

Naomi Watts in Armani

Jessica Chastain in Armani Prive (that woman is on fire she looks drop dead gorgeous)

P.S I have a crush on Bradley Cooper…I’m just saying…
